My name is Pleun, and I am a PhD researcher at the Behavioural Science Institute (BSI) at Radboud University. My background is in primary education and orthopedagogy. I still enjoy combining orthopedagogy with my work as a researcher. In my work, I believe it is important to build an equal and meaningful relationship with a child and their family, and to look together at their strengths, talents, and potential.
This way of looking at children and their families also forms an important basis for my research project. Together with my research team, I study what interactions between parents and their child look like when a child has low muscle tone (hypotonia). We map out these interactions and offer the guidance program ROZA, aimed at strengthening the bond between parents and their child.
Through the BRC, we are also looking for parents of children with typical development. By comparing these groups, we hope to better understand what parents of children with hypotonia need and how we can best support them. Who knows, we might meet during a conversation at the BRC!
