I am interested in how bilingual children learn and use two languages at the same time. I am planning to conduct several studies in Ireland with children who speak both Irish Gaelic and English.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"hoe-beinvloeden-talen-elkaar\">How do languages influence each other?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Hoewel tweetalige kinderen heel goed in staat zijn hun twee talen uit elkaar te houden, kan het gebeuren dat de talen elkaar be\u00efnvloeden. Stel u bijvoorbeeld een kind voor dat Iers en Engels spreekt en een prentenboek doorkijkt. Ze zou in het Engels iets kunnen zeggen als &#8220;the hen little&#8221;. De woordvolgorde is hier onjuist in het Engels, maar zou correct zijn in het Iers. In het Engels komt het bijvoeglijk naamwoord v\u00f3\u00f3r het zelfstandig naamwoord (little hen), maar in het Iers volgt het bijvoeglijk naamwoord op het zelfstandig naamwoord (chearc bheag = hen little). Het Iers-Engelse tweetalige kind kan dus een grammaticale regel van de Ierse taal hebben gebruikt in een Engelse zin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This phenomenon is called Cross-Linguistic Influence (CLI). I am particularly interested in how and when CLI happens.
