{"id":1441,"date":"2021-08-11T13:26:10","date_gmt":"2021-08-11T13:26:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/babyandchild.nl\/?post_type=medewerkers&#038;p=1441"},"modified":"2021-09-17T08:58:14","modified_gmt":"2021-09-17T08:58:14","slug":"caroline-rowland","status":"publish","type":"medewerkers","link":"https:\/\/babyandchild.nl\/en\/medewerkers\/caroline-rowland\/","title":{"rendered":"Caroline Rowland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"translation-block\">I am Director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mpi.nl\/department\/language-development\/3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Language Development Department<\/a> at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in the Netherlands and Professor of First Language Acquisition at Radboud University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">For over 20 years, I have been studying how young children learn to communicate with language, how the child's developing brain supports this process, and how it is affected by differences in children's environments; differences between languages, between families and between cultures. Amongst other projects, I am currently investigating why some children develop language more quickly than others. I lead a large longitudinal project, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lucid.ac.uk\/what-we-do\/research\/lucid-phase-1-completed-projects-2014-2019\/language-0-5-project\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the Language 0-5 Project<\/a>, that tracked the language development of 90 English-learning children from 6 months to 4 year and 6 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These results are used for: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Developing explanations why children differ in the speed with which they learn language;<\/li><li>Studying how a child\u2019s family circumstances affect language development;<\/li><li>Giving evidence-based advice to preschool teachers about we might be able to speed up the language development of the slower children.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">My book, <a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.nl\/books\/about\/Understanding_Child_Language_Acquisition.html?id=BYS3AQAAQBAJ&amp;printsec=frontcover&amp;source=kp_read_button&amp;hl=en&amp;redir_esc=y#v=onepage&amp;q&amp;f=false\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Understanding Child Language Acquisition<\/a>, is an introduction to some of the most important research on child language acquisition over the last fifty years, and to some of the most influential theories in the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Read more?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Jones, G., Cabiddu, F., Andrews, M., &amp; Rowland, C.
